Francis <Frank> Ledwidge was born in Slane, Co. Meath on the 19 August 1887, in the old heart of Ireland. He died in the Great War on July 31, 1917, the opening day of the Third Battle of Ypres, near Boezinge, in Belgium. All of his life, he had tried to become a good poet, and when he died, there was every sign that he could have become a great poet, had it not been for the war.

Songs of Peace was the title of the second, post-humous volume of poems by Francis Ledwidge. Peace Concerts Passendale had to sing these songs. Thanks to Seán and Alfred, Peter, Filip, Caroline, Fergus and Jan and many others both in Ireland and in Flanders this has now become possible.
